Strain Review: Have a Bowl of Cookies & Cream by CRU Cannabis

The pop phenom known as Taylor Swift (you may have heard of her) once said: “I’d rather be at home and eat ice cream than go out and get wasted.” A simple statement from a wise woman takes a whole new meaning when you bring CRU Cannabis’s Cookies & Cream into the mix.

This sweet, meditative and balanced Hybrid is sure to bring you a sweet, nutty flavor profile and an uplifting, creative effect that will be sure to have you ordering, “Cookies and Cream, I’ll take two scoops of this sweet strain, thank you very much.

Cultivated by CRU Cannabis, Cookies & Cream is a sinfully sweet treat for the adventurous cannabis consumer — an aromatic, energetic and immaculately manicured strain that delivered a noteworthy treat for the senses.

Cookies & Cream’s beautiful bud structure represents the CRU crew’s cultivation skills. The strain is a cross between Starfighter and a mysterious phenotype from the Cookie fam, and makes for a  full-bodied flower that is covered in trichomes. The flower had a real flexible density, which made dissecting it for my afternoon joint a pleasure.

I had a solo sesh in my home office, where the joint’s initial hit provided an extremely smooth flavor  and imparted a sweet, nutty vanilla. My half-smoked joint amplified my focus and left me with an enhanced ability to concentrate on the tasks at hand.

Cannabis cultivation is definitely a science, but CRU Cannabis’s Cookies & Cream reminds us that cultivation is an art as well.

Cookies & Cream buds are vibrant with color, with no fewer than three distinct shades of green that vary from deep emerald to light lime, orange pistils, and innumerable yellowish trichomes indiscriminately dusted throughout each bud, and a few special leaves sporting rich violet hues. Her impressive looks and aroma, a scent more inviting than freshly baked convections cooling on a windowsill, gave me a lot to look forward to.

We broke up the buds and rolled them into a tight joint for an afternoon smoke sesh. Getting a drag out took some effort, but the work was well worth the effort as I became deeply relaxed without feeling groggy or sleepy.

The sweet, vanilla taste profile was somewhat difficult to enjoy due to the flavor being smothered by the rolling paper. I find that cultivars with citrusy, diesely, or sour terpene profiles are easier for my taste buds to detect than the taste of sweeter strains. Be sure to toke these beautiful buds in some clean glass or a vaporizer to really see what Cookies & Cream’s terpenes can really do.

Cookies & Cream, cultivated by CRU Cannabis, left a spicy taste on my tongue and a stony, couch-lock effect on my body. When I took a whiff of the Cookies & Cream flower, my nose immediately caught a peppery scent that made my taste buds very excited to smoke the strain. The crunched-together, dense layers of calyxes made the flower a challenge to break apart as the bud’s trichomes stuck to my fingers. Once the bud was hand-shredded flowers, I effortlessly rolled a tight joint. Turns out the density of the buds kept the joint burning strong.

The Cookies & Cream joint cycled through the circle a few times and put the sesh participants into a mild daze. While the flavors were not as hard-hitting as the aroma, CRU Cannabis’ Cookies and Cream, however, provided a certain spiciness that did not disappoint.

After the joint wound down to the tail-end, the crowded room seemed to clear, and leave me  alone with my thoughts as all the things I was stressing about suddenly melted away. Overall, CRU Cannabis’s Cookies and Cream offers all the aesthetic bud structure and potency you’d expect for a top-shelf bud. It’s the perfect after-work dessert herb.

Some strains are more memorable than others, and CRU Cannabis’ Cookies & Cream offered intriguing flavors and a high I’m not likely to forget anytime soon.

When I first started in on the sesh’s Cookies & Cream joint, I had to concentrate a little to separate the bud’s flavor from the rolling paper. It was a subtle, earthy vanilla with a nutty edge that really started to come through when the smoke hit the back of my mouth. The process of identifying these flavors and following them to full fruition put me in a mellow, meditative state and teed me up perfectly for the high that followed.

And what a gorgeous high it was! My head was loose but my thinking was clear. The effects opened up the doors for some much needed relaxation, lively conversation, and even a kind of focused, creative energy. If you’re looking for something to help you mellow out at the end of the day without melting your body, CRU Cannabis’ Cookies & Cream is the way to go.
